It’s a Cakewalk

A great time was had by all this past Sunday at Antenna Gallery’s first Cupcake Throwdown and Artist Cakewalk fundraiser! All of the proceeds raised from the bake sale and cake walk tickets will go towards programs and upcoming shows at the Gallery. Shake Sugary is proud to have been awarded trophies in the categories of Dominating Tasty Cupcake for our Victory Garden cupcakes and Best Cake in Disguise for our Vegan T-Bone cake.

The Victory Garden cupcakes were an orange carrot ginger cake with coconut cream filling and orange ginger cream cheese icing.

The T-Bone was a vegan chocolate and crimson swirl cake with chocolate raspberry truffle filling.

I wasn’t the only Snead to bring home a trophy! Representing Antenna Gallery, Bob (my hubby) was awarded Best Art Cake for his Car Wreck (strawberry shortcake) Cake.

Check out Antenna’s Flickr page to see pictures of all of the winners and more awesome and creative cakes!

Weekend Cakes

This past weekend was exciting around the bakeshop with two very fun and creative cakes. Summertime is for hitting the beach, and although I didn’t spend the weekend at the beach, I had the pleasure of crafting this beach house cake inspired by a birthday wish and the sand and the sea.

With a twist on traditional flower adornments, Rachel and Joel’s rustic 3 tiered wedding cake featured edible fruit and vegetable flower garnishes. I created the hand cut and shaped flowers out of carrots, sweet potatoes, radishes, and lemon rind and used fresh rosemary and mint sprigs out of my herb garden for greenery. I was delighted to be able to make the bride’s favorite carrot cake and cream cheese filling using her mother’s recipe that she bakes for all of the family’s special occasions.

A Busy June!

Crawfish and Fixin’s
posted on May 9, 2011

It’s crawfish season in Louisiana and pots are boiling in every corner of the state. This weekend I had the pleasure of making this giant mudbug cake with all the fixin’s. The cake is a traditional almond flavor with an almond buttercream filling. The corn and potatoes are vegan chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.

SALVAGE + CREATIONS = SALVATIONS
posted on April 13, 2011

Shake Sugary is excited to have been asked to be a food vendor for the Salvations gala hosted  by The Green Project this Saturday night. Salvations is a furniture design competition utilizing reclaimed, repurposed & recycled materials. All to benefit New Orleans’ oldest local environmental non-profit, The Green Project. And it only seemed fitting for us to display our desserts in the display case that we hand built out of salvaged materials gathered at The Green Project. So come out Saturday night and enjoy some custom handmade furniture and local fare all while supporting a great cause!
